Barra Shopping Center, Brazil

 Opened 1996

1.6 km

3 stations

Amidst great hoopla and promotion, the Barra Shopping Centre opened a $5 million monorail. The loop system carries passengers between a large parking lot and the shopping center. Two ten-car People Porter trains were supplied by Intamin of Switzerland. Signalling and telecommunications was supplied by Mitsubishi of Japan. There has been some discussion of extending the system to connect with Line One of the Rio Metro.
