Monorails of Asia

Sentosa Island, Singapore
Singapore's heavily landscaped Sentosa Island has a little something for everyone. There are luxury hotels, camping facilities, beaches, aquariums, museums, rides, sport facilities, discos, walking trails, bike paths and yes, a monorail that circles the island. This was Von Roll's first step away from supplying only fair monorails. As you can see in this picture, monorail is an excellent way to cross over a heavily vegetated landscape without leaving a "scar" along its pathway. In Sentosa's case, the guideway has also been painted green to blend in. The trains are a different story! The monorail is scheduled to be dismantled in 2005 and a new, Hitachi Small monorail will replace it linking the island to the mainland. |
