Las Vegas Monorail

The Las Vegas Monorail System is a 3.9 mile dual-beam line that connects the MGM Grand with the Sahara Hotel Casino. Stations located along the route are at Bally's/Paris, Flamingo Hilton, Harrah's/Imperial Palace, the Las Vegas Hilton and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Granite Construction Company of Watsonville, California built the guideway and stations. Bombardier supplied monorail trains and related control systems.

The Las Vegas Monorail is the first fully automated large-scale monorail in the United States. It is the first privately-financed transit system built in the USA since World War II. As detailed in one of the informative articles below, "The Las Vegas Monorail: A Unique Rapid Transit Project for a Unique City," the monorail was funded by tax-free bonds without expense to taxpayers.

This segment of track beyond the MGM station will be where direction reversal switches will be located. This end of the line may also some day be extended to McCarran International Airport.

The green line represents the approved Las Vegas Monorail alignment. This segment opened on July 15, 2004. Changes in alignment may occur due to stations being added or other factors. The red line north of the initial system was proposed and rejected by the FDA. The map is courtesy of the Regional Transportation Commission of Clark County, Nevada (RTC).
