Siemens H-Bahn - Switching

Switching is very unique with the Siemens system. A switch consists of a pair of "short point" blades and a swivelling "long point" blade. During a switching operation, the short point blades move longitudinally away from the "fork" (Y) point to "unlock". Then both the short and long point blades move into the opposite position. Then the short point blades move back into their original position and "lock" the whole mechanism in place. The Dortmund University H-Bahn features three online switches.
