The Niles Monorail History

Here I am putting together one of the prototype bogies.

The prototype car is almost ready for a track test.

Kory Pedersen takes a short ride in the garage. It seems to work! You get an idea of how long this project took when you see how Kory looked five years later at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After some failed attempts at box-beam monorail track, by August of 1997 I had settled upon laminated plywood for curves. These forms worked pretty good as far as keeping the ply together. The challenge was holding the curve shape in place while drilling the pieces together.

The first track section went up in September of 1997. Little did I know how long it would take to get around the entire yard!
